The Masters/Postgraduate Diploma in Social work Practice (Think Ahead)
This programme is a fast-track scheme for exceptional graduates and career changers to become mental health social workers. It is managed by the Think Ahead organisation – the University of York provides the academic
content in partnership with the University of Central Lancashire.
This is a two-year programme combining paid on-the-job experience and academic learning. In the first year of the programme, the students complete the Post Graduate Diploma in Social Work Practice, which allows them to apply for registration as a social worker with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). In the second year, the
students work as qualified social workers, and complete their MA in Social Work Practice.
Students start their ‘Think Ahead’ course with a six-week summer school, which takes place during the school summer holidays in July and August.
The SUPA Group are involved in various classes during the summer school, including taking part in role plays which assess the students’ communication skills. We work alongside the Think Ahead service user and carer group, who are also involved in several classes.
