Keith J Thompson was appointed as Managing Director of Thompson Events  in August 2009. Prior to this appointment, Keith served as Managing Director for Thompson Design Limited.

Keith’s career spans more than 30+ years in Civil/Structural Engineering and he has been involved in various contracts in the UK and abroad, specialising in reinforced concrete detailing & scheduling.

Keith earned an HNC in Civil Engineering from York College of Arts & Technology in 1990 after obtaining an ONC in Civil Engineering from the same place in 1988.

A highly accurate, analytical and accomplished Senior Structural CAD Technician with a demonstrable track record of operating within a diverse range of industries as well as a strong background working on large-scale projects both in the UK and overseas.

As an AutoCAD designer I worked directly with engineering teams (Virtual Design London), Architects & builders and took direction to generate two- and three-dimensional models and drawings using AutoCAD software. I created original drawings from hand sketches, and design specifications from concept to completion on house extensions, new builds & barn conversions. To ensure accuracy and compliance of organizational standards, as an AutoCAD designer I attended site meetings & also did site survey measurements. I produced GA & RC detail drawings & schedules, elevations & sections for pile caps, ground beams, retaining walls, plinths, slabs and stairs. I produced tender and construction drawings for a leisure centre, hotels, multi-storey office blocks & swimming pools. I checked RC detail drawings before issuing. I produced & amended drawings for planning and construction purposes, to fixed & tight deadlines.

Worked on the initial scheme and layout for the Dubai operation, including topographical and survey work, identified and laid out plans and equipment and became involved in the foundations, delivered schematic drawings.

Executed all general arrangements for the layout of all types of projects including but not limited to residential, industrial and commercial, capable of detailing structural steel, precast concrete, brickwork, stonework and timber frames, an expert in reinforced concrete.

Delivered complete and compliant design and construction drawings and ensured that all work was technically compliant as well as mindful of Health and Safety, communicated to all staff and made certain all areas within the organisation were updated.

Tendered for many projects and won external work within a partnership, advertised organisation and managed multiple site projects including a main contract and smaller local work.

Provided details drawings for the re-signalling scheme for work on the rail tracks. Implemented plans, elevations and sections and established new steel gantry and signals to replace the existing work.

Carried out copious jobs, hired solely due to personal recommendation and expertise within the reinforced concrete material, assisted in adaptable and usable materials and capable of identifying the correct balance between compression and tension.

Considered all aspects of the job, designed with Health and Safety of personnel in mind as well as utilising strong mathematical skills that were capable of deciphering calculations from engineers.

Assisted in the development of full technical solutions and gained approvals from clients, consultants, statutory bodies, suppliers and subcontractors to make certain of a successful enactment of each project.

Developed and delivered design packages, allowed timely manufacturing and construction activity that complied with 100% accuracy to the original design intent as well as provided on-going mentoring to junior technicians.

Ensured all documentation was controlled and issued in line with defined company processes as well as gained a strong understanding of the client brief and overall expectations.

Fully conversant with all latest AutoCAD and Architectural design software with a strong IT back ground, and capable of learning and adapting to internal bespoke systems and desktop packages.

Produced reinforced concrete details & plans for 2 DDA projects that involved the design for lift shafts, walkway base and a walkway foundation as well as worked on alternative elevations for major supermarkets and multi-storey car parks.

Delivered to stringent deadlines and often completed work ahead of schedule due to diligence and expertise. Capable of pioneering new projects as well as amending existing drawings for planning and construction purposes.
